At 318 Art & Frame, we love championing artists whose journeys are as compelling as their creations—and Jenn Ryland’s story is a beautiful example of rediscovery. A Shreveport native and Byrd High School alum, Jenn never imagined she’d become an artist. In fact, after taking art classes in middle and high school, she decided painting just wasn’t for her. But when the world slowed down in 2020, Jenn picked up a paintbrush as a way to manage the stress of life as a registered NICU nurse—and she hasn’t looked back since.
Jenn’s return to painting was born out of necessity. Working on the frontlines of healthcare during the pandemic, she sought a creative outlet to balance the intensity of her day-to-day job. What started as a personal escape quickly turned into a passionate pursuit. Self-taught and wildly motivated, Jenn found her rhythm in bold color palettes, layered textures, and joyful depictions of Louisiana culture.
Her work is vibrant, expressive, and unmistakably Southern. Each piece celebrates the energy of the region—from fleur-de-lis and crawfish boils to nostalgic streetcar scenes and jazz-inspired abstractions. A signature detail across all of Jenn’s paintings is the iconic New Orleans water meter emblem—a nod to the rich heritage and artistic spirit of the state she calls home. Whether she’s working on a mini canvas or a large-scale commission, Jenn pours her heart into every brushstroke.
At 318 Art & Frame, we’re proud to showcase Jenn’s latest work, which blends Louisiana imagery with abstract elements, often incorporating gold accents and mixed media for added texture. Her pieces feel both rooted and contemporary, a reflection of someone deeply connected to place but unafraid to experiment.
Jenn is a perfect fit for our gallery and for the larger 318 creative community. Her work radiates optimism, authenticity, and hometown pride—qualities that make her instantly relatable to local collectors and art lovers alike. As she looks to the future, Jenn hopes to eventually transition into painting full-time—and we have no doubt she will.
