Artist Spotlight: Sandra Attales--Swamp Stories, Southern Roots, and Vibrant Imagination

Erin Ducote

At 318 Art & Frame, we’re proud to represent Lake Charles artist Sandra Attales, whose rich, expressive paintings bring the beauty and mystery of the South to life. Originally from the Florida Keys, Sandra now calls Louisiana home, and her work reflects a unique blend of coastal roots and bayou soul.

A graduate of the Savannah College of Art and Design, Sandra holds a B.F.A. in painting and drawing. Her professional training is evident in the thoughtful composition and layered emotion behind every piece—but it's her personal connection to the land and her life experiences that give her work such powerful resonance. Now a wife and mom of three, Sandra paints from her studio in Lake Charles, where everyday life, memory, and imagination fuel her creative process.

Sandra’s paintings often celebrate the wild, untamed nature of Louisiana’s landscapes. Her lush swamp scenes—thick with foliage, movement, and mood—offer more than just natural beauty. They reflect a deep appreciation for what’s often overlooked: the tangled, the shadowed, the quietly alive. Her brushwork captures the very heartbeat of the South, turning dense vegetation and watery reflections into a kind of visual poetry.

One of her most captivating bodies of work is the Swamp Girl series—imaginative, nocturnal dreamscapes that blend fantasy with familiarity. These paintings feel like whispered stories passed down over generations, rooted in Southern folklore and seen through a modern, feminine lens. There’s a timeless quality to them, evoking childhood wonder, resilience, and connection to place.

Sandra Attales invites the viewer into a world that feels both mythic and deeply personal. Whether you’re drawn to her vivid depictions of Louisiana’s native landscape or the dreamy storytelling of her Swamp Girl pieces, her work has a way of speaking to something inside all of us—something that remembers, something that feels like home.
