Sharon Furrate Bailey was originally inspired at the age of eight years old when her father, Lewis Reid Brown, a commercial architect, took her to an art showcase. However, it was not until 2007 that she began to take art classes. She is now a full-time artist who can be found almost daily at her Woodlands Art Studio in Baton Rouge. She is known for her use of color in her abstracts. She also paints whimsical art such has her extremely popular crawfish series that gained a broad following when featured in The Baton Rouge Morning Advocate in 2008.
Sharon has been a featured artist at many local art showcase events such as White Light Nights Art Festival and Hot Art Cool Nights held in the Mid-City Historical District of Baton Rouge. In addition, Sharon has had four pieces accepted into the juried show entitled, The Tom Peyton Memorial Arts Festival in Alexandria, Louisiana. In 2016, her painting entitled “Crossing Jordan” won The Festival award and afterward was made a part of the First United Methodist’s permanent collection.
Several of Sharon’s paintings have been featured in films such as God’s Not Dead and Caged No More. The television series “Queen Sugar” (produced by Oprah Winfrey) has also featured Sharon’s work. Many print publications, such as City Social and 225 Magazine, have also interviewed and published articles about Sharon’s work. Sharon is proud to have sold commissioned pieces all over the United States and as far as Australia. Some of her pieces are available in her studio and at the locations listed below.
