Long Pine Needle Handwoven Basket #17

A one of a kind gray long pine needle basket with yellow and turquoise stitching and a natural wood center cut out. This basket had been treated with beeswax and glycerin, giving it a lifespan of hundreds of years. These very special baskets are handmade by Louisiana artisan Kaye Reilly.

Each basket is hand woven with long leaf pine needles in the traditional Coushatta Indian style. The pine needles are washed, baked with glycerin and then dyed. They are then stitched with waxed linen thread or artificial sinew. The stitching is unique to each basket. Some have extensive stitching, beads and other decor to add to the aesthetic of the basket.

This basket has a diameter of 11 and 1/2 inches.
